The third time was the charm for the Vandebilt Catholic boys’ soccer team.

After losing twice to E.D. White during the season, the Terriers stood tallest when the game mattered most – in the Division III State Championship Match.

Vandebilt and E.D. White played through a grueling regulation, overtime and sudden death period, which sent the match to penalty kicks tied at 1.

While in PK’s, the Terriers stood tall, winning that session 3-1 to win the title.

It was the ninth state title in Vandebilt history. For E.D. White, the loss denies the team a shot at its first-ever title.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Terriers coach Paul Shenton said after the win. “Our opponent has been dominant. We knew we had a tall task to climb. But we did it and we can leave here the State Champions.”

LADY TERRIERS FALL TO UNIVERSITY LAB

The third time wasn’t the charm for the Vandebilt Catholic girls’ soccer team.

After winning the championship for two-straight years, the Lady Terriers’ title hopes were dashed last night, falling to University Lab in penalty kicks in the Division III State Championship Match.

The loss breaks the streak for the Lady Terriers, who were terrific in defeat, rallying from an early 1-0 deficit with a goal from Molly Thompson, which forced overtime.

In overtime, the teams each had chances but no one converted, which pushed the match to sudden death and then into penalty kicks, where University did its damage and secured the win, scoring a 4-3 advantage in that session.
