Theresa Plaisance is going home with the gold.

The LSU senior center and Vandebilt Catholic graduate helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the 2013 World University Games, scoring nine points and grabbing six rebounds in the 90-71 win against host nation Russia.

The victory capped a perfect 6-0 tournament for the Americans.

Plaisance is now the fourth Lady Tiger to win a gold medal at the World University Games, joining Joyce Walker, Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles.

This gold is the second of Plaisance’s career. She won gold with Team USE at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

“This is just outstanding,” Plaisance said following the win. “Coming onto their home turf and being able to beat them in their own place is such an honor. We knew Russia was going to be a tough matchup. … We had to keep our mind set on the gold medal. We fought hard and we achieved the ultimate goal. I won’t ever forget being a part of this team.”

Plaisance and the Americans dominated start-to-finish in the gold medal game.

Team USA never trailed in the game and opened up a sizeable lead from the early minutes of the contest.

America controlled the tempo of the action against Russia by forcing 20 turnovers, which led to 27 Team USA points.

With the win and the gold medal in hand, Plaisance will now head back to Louisiana to prepare for another overseas trip.

The 2014 National Player of the Year candidate is set to rejoin LSU in the coming days to help the team prepare for its upcoming collegiate tour in Spain in August.
