Martin Luther King Boulevard is one of the fastest-growing commercial areas in Houma. Now, Buffalo Wild Wings has joined the MLK family, capturing locals’ attention and providing employment to 84 Tri-parish residents.

The $1.5 million restaurant is 5,600 square feet of casual dining that gives sports enthusiasts a chance to indulge in chicken wings, beer and big screen televisions, which deliver up to 12 sporting events at a time.

“With several big screens in the restaurant, we provide a one-stop shop for all wings and sports fans,” said Assistant General Manager Arthur Williams. “They come for the food but stay for the experience.”

Located in the Houma Crossing Shopping Center in front of Hobby Lobby, the restaurant is one of three franchises owned by RC Restaurant Group. The company also has stores in Lake Charles and Beaumont, Texas.

The Houma eatery is a “generation IV establishment” in the Buffalo Wild Wings franchise, Williams said. It is the first Louisiana Buffalo Wild Wings establishment to earn the status. The improved service model allows guests the option to order at the service counter entry, allowing quick service for the lunch crowd. Or patrons can opt for full service in the restaurant’s seated area.

“Guests can enjoy their made-to-order wings, naked tenders, boneless tenders, chicken sandwiches and wraps all spun in our 14 different sauces – ranging from sweet tasting to blazing hot – at home, work or right here in the restaurant,” Williams said.

The menu, which is still being fine-tuned, also includes traditional restaurant items like burgers, salads, finger foods and a kid’s menu.

“We have a knack for developing creative menu items that meet the demands of our guests, while sticking to our signature foods which sets us apart from the rest,” the owner said.

Of course, the Houma location has Buffalo Wild Wings, staples the chain has become known for.

The restaurant offers specials during the week. On Tuesday, wings cost 40 cents each and on Thursday, boneless chicken tenders cost 50 cents each. On Wednesdays, kids can pick up a 99-cent kid’s meal, which includes four wings and potato wedges with the option of switching the wings out for chicken tenders or boneless wings.

Besides watching the big screen for local sports highlights and games, guests can log on to the National Trivia Network, an interactive quiz game, and compete against other restaurant patrons from their tables. Or they can even play some free-roll Texas hold’em using handheld devices (no money is wagered).

“What good is it having great- tasting food without a little fun on the side,” Williams said.

Soon, children’s games are offered on the National Trivia Network.

The restaurant also offers the “Blazin’ Challenge.” Guests agreeing to take the challenge will be given six minutes to eat a plate of 12 wings doused in the hottest wing sauce offered by the restaurant- Blazin’.

The challenger can’t drink anything while eating the wings and is advised not to touch his or her face. Those who succeed win a T-shirt and get their picture placed on the Blazin’ wall. The person who breaks the fastest record for completing the challenge gets the wings for free.
