Sheriff Craig Webre is reminding residents mat the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office will conduct two checkpoints this week in Lafourche Parish. A seat belt checkpoint will be conducted during the daytime hours of May 91, 2018. That will be followed by a DWI checkpoint which will continue into the early morning hours of June 1, 2018. These checkpoints are being conducted as part of the Click-It or Ticket campaign which runs through June 3, 3016. The campaign is aimed at increasing the national seat belt usage rate and is coordinated and funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.


During the seat bait checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists far seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags During the DWI checkpoint deputies will be looking for drivers who are possibly impaired while checking for other traffic safety issues, including but not limited to seat belt usage. Remember that Lafourche Parish is a *No Refusal” parish, meaning if a suspected drunk driver refuses a breathalyzer tesat, deputies will seek a search warrant to have that person’s blood tested.

Sheriff Craig Webre thanks citizens for buckling up and asks for patience and cooperation when passing through these checkpoints and for recognizing the importance of raining awareness for safety issues.

TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO THEFT INVESTIGATION OF WATERCRAFTS


The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that two Raceland men have been arrested in connection with an investigation into the theft of personal water crafts.

On May 18. 2018. deputies observed a truck, which was reported stolen from Terrebonne Parish, traveling on U.S. Highway 90 in RaceLand with a Yamaha Wave Runner on a trailer in tow. As deputies attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Chaz Rodrigue, 29, proceeded to La. Highway 908 and continued northbound until a bridge closure stopped Ms progress.

Deputies took him into custody and he was allegedly found to have methamphetamine. marijuana and a stolen handgun in his possession. The watercraft was reported stolen from St James Parish.

Later that evening, authorities found another watercraft stolen out of St James Pariah near the home of Marvin Sevier, 27.

As deputies approached the residence, Sevier ran out the bade door and was apprehended. He was found to have a handgun in his possession win! an obliterated serial number.


Rodrigue is charged with three counts of illegal possession of stolen things, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting an officer no ignition interlock device and no driver ‘s license, as well as possession of me thamphet-amine and marijuana. His bond is set at $116,550 and he 1B also held on charges in Terrebonne.

Sevier is charged with illegal possession of stolen thing? and possession of firearms with an obliterated mark He posted a $30,000 bond.

Authorities are also looking into the theft of two Yamaha Wave Runners during the morning hours of May 15. Rodrigue and Sevier are persons of interest in that case.
