Children are our nation’s most valuable resource. Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders – civic, business and social.

The mission of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new. unwrapped toys during October. November and December of each year and those toys as Christmas gifts to the less fortunate children as Christmas gifts in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Toys for Tots has three main objectives: to help less for tunate children through out the United States experience the joys of Christmas. to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources. our children; and to unite all members of local communities in a common cause during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign and to contribute to better communities in the future.

If we reflect on our own life and recall what it meant to receive a new toy at Christmas, we cannot help but realize the positive impact/effect had on our life. At this time in our life we can only imagine how devastating it would have been to receive nothing while our friends received a new toy. Scone of us can recall when a friend, in our neighborhood, received nothing for Christmas because his or her family was experiencing hard tunes. It is painful to think about the impact of Christmas without a toy has on a child and how his or her self esteem is adversely effected.

In Houma. the Toys for Tots mission is assisted by over 50 volunteers who come from all walks of life nurses, stay-at-home moms, doctors, a Native American Chief, school teachers, law enforcement personnel. Marines (Active, Reserve, Retired and former), etc. These volunteers help the Marines put a smile on children’s faces on Christmas morning. Toys for Tots not only benefits our area children. but also has an impact on communities, on businesses, large and small, on the Maine Corps and on the nation, In 3017, the Toys for Tote campaign collected 13,524 toys. This allowed 4508 children to receive three toys each under their trees at Christmas.
