Juveniles charged after allegedly bringing gun to elementary school

Two male juveniles are charged after authorities found a B.B. gun at Raceland Upper Elementary School.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Matthews said the gun was found on Tuesday morning. Investigation uncovered that it was brought to school by a 12-year-old boy, who then gave it to an 11-year-old boy inside a classroom.

At one point, authorities said the gun fell to the floor in the classroom and was observed by a school administrator, who seized the weapon and made contact with a school resource officer.

After investigation, both juveniles were charged with violating a Louisiana statute, which prohibits anyone from carrying a dangerous weapon onto school property.

The juveniles were then released into the custody of their parents.

Lafourche Sheriff Craig Webre said the incident should serve as a cautionary point to all students and parents about B.B. guns and similar replica firearms.

The weapon in this case was black and looked like a handgun.

“We hope this incident serves as a reminder to students that any guns even B.B. guns are absolutely not allowed at school,” Webre said. “Moreover, we strongly caution children and parents alike who have B.B. or pellet guns, such as the one in this incident, which are made to replicate actual firearms. When facing someone brandishing one of these guns, law enforcement officers will most often not have the time or ability to distinguish one of these from an actual firearm and will treat the situation as though there is a real firearm present. It is imperative that any gun of this nature be easily distinguishable from a real firearm.”

Eldery man charged after allegedly locking wife in trailer

An elderly man is charged with false imprisonment after he allegedly locked his wife in a trailer against her will.

On March 21, Louisiana State Police said it conducted a traffic stop on a suspect identified as Oluse Dupre Jr., 77, of 121 Mardi Gras Court in Houma.

During the stop, Dupre allegedly told State Police he was speeding because his wife was having a panic attack at the family’s camper trailer.

He then allegedly informed the state policeman that he had locked his wife in the trailer, and this was what was causing her to have the panic attack.

At this point, the State Police called the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, which started an investigation.

Dupre’s son then arrived on the scene and told authorities his mother had contacted him, advising that the suspect had locked her in the trailer without consent, using a padlock on the outside of the door. The son then said his mother needed medical attention.

Authorities said Dupre’s son then was able to cut the lock and free his mom from the trailer.

Upon questioning, Dupre’s wife confirmed she had not consented to being locked inside the trailer, which led authorities to place the suspect under arrest.

Dupre is charged with one count of false imprisonment.

Traffic stop leads to drug-related offenses in Lafourche

Three Lafourche Parish natives are in custody after a traffic stop netting drug-related arrests.

Around 5 p.m. on Monday, a K-9 deputy traveling along La. Highway 308 conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Larose area.

The deputy identified the driver, Waylon Darsey, 34, of Larose, and noticed he had active warrants, immediately taking him into custody.

A passenger, Crystal Benoit, 34, of Golden Meadow, also had active warrants, and was immediately placed into custody.

The K-9 unit on the scene alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, which led to a search.

The search led deputies to find three syringes, each containing a liquid substance.

After further investigation, authorities learned the syringes belongs to another passenger in the vehicle, Satila Boudreaux, 27, of Cut Off.

Authorities said Boudreaux told deputies the liquid was methamphetamine, which led to Boudreaux being placed under arrest.

All three suspects were taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux.

Darsey was booked on active warrants for distribution of methamphetamine and contempt of court. His bond is set for $30,000. Benoit was booked on three active warrants for contempt of court. Her bond has been set at $3,000, as well as a $324.50 find in relation to one of the warrants.

Boudreaux was booked on possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Her bond is set at $5,500.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of this B.B. gun to show how much it looks like an actual weapon. Two juveniles were arrested this week after allegedly taking a gun to school.
