LPSO: Suspect broke into room, raped woman while she was asleep

A Lockport man is charged with second-degree rape after he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a woman who was asleep after taking medication.

On May 13, LPSO detectives began investigating an alleged rape, which had occurred the previous night.

Investigators said they learned that in the late afternoon of May 12, a woman took prescription medication and fell asleep at a residence she shared with an older relative.

The woman said she then awoke around midnight and found Lance Knight, 38, of Lockport, engaged in sexual intercourse with her.

Authorities said Knight was known to the victim, but had previously been barred from the residence by those close to the family.

The victim allegedly told Knight to stop, and he initially refused, according to authorities.

Following the alleged rape, Knight began rummaging through the room, allegedly taking cash and prescription medication from the victim.

The relative then entered the room after hearing a commotion, and Knight allegedly then fled the scene.

Authorities were called to the scene and obtained a warrant for Knight’s arrest for his alleged role in the case.

On Thursday, he surrendered and was booked on charges of second-degree rape, home invasion and simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

His bond is set at $150,000.

He is held in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

Suspect arrested after allegedly stalking girlfriend from her attic

A 21-year-old Lafourche Parish man is in custody after he was allegedly secretly living in his ex-girlfriend’s attic to stalk her.

On May 3, deputies responded to a residence on East 16th Street in Larose in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Taylor Broussard, 21, had forced entry into the residence that morning and had made contact with an ex-girlfriend who lived there.

Following a verbal altercation, Broussard allegedly struck the woman with his fists.

A juvenile was present and the woman shielded the juvenile as Broussard continued to strike her, according to authorities.

At one point, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and threatened the woman.

Deputies said he used the knife to slash the bed sheet and cut through the mattress, while also damaging several other items in the room.

Authorities said the victim was able to escape to a neighboring residence to call for help, but while she did that, Broussard allegedly stole the victim’s purse and phone, then took her SUV and fled the scene – a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander with the license plate XLG572.

Upon investigation, authorities learned that the suspect had allegedly been living in the woman’s attic for an unknown period of time in an effort to stalk her.

Deputies said they found bedding, water bottles, food and plastic bottles filled with urine in the attic.

Authorities said they had also been called to the residence a few days before the alleged attack in reference to him entering the residence without permission.

Deputies said they made several attempts to contact and locate Broussard immediately after the incident, but they were unsuccessful.

Deputies obtained warrants for the suspect on charges of stalking (two counts), domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, domestic abuse aggravated assault, theft of a motor vehicle, felony theft, home invasion, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and simple criminal damage to property.

The suspect’s warrants and information on the stolen vehicle were also uploaded to statewide data systems.

Deputies were initially asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.

But the day after the press release was issued last week, LPSO announced that the suspect was located in Baton Rouge and taken into custody.
