DWI sweep nets 6 arrests in a 24-hour span

A 57-year-old Des Allemands man is accused of driving drunk for the second time – one of five DWI’s the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office handed out within a 24-hour span last week.

The incidents started just after 12 a.m. on April 25 when deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence cm Bridge Road in Des Allemands. Deputies arrived at the residence and learned that Oscar Pinto, 57, of Des AUernands, had caused a disturbance, then left the scene in a white truck.


While deputies were still on the scene. Pinto returned to the residence in the truck. Deputies made contact with him and noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Pinto performed poorly during a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol level to be at .I44g%, which is above the legal limit.

Pinto was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, charged with second-offense DWI, open container and expired driver’s license. He posted a $2,200 bond.

LPSO was busy with suspected drunk drivers that day, as four others were given DWI charges around the parish.


Troy Thibodaux of Cut Off. was charged with second-offense DWI.

Dustin Gaff, 23, of Labadieville. Heather Bates. 25, of Raceland and Esmeralda Valenzuela, 27, of Thibodaux were all also charged.

Thibodaux man given 4th DWI charge after weekend stop


A 30-year-old Thibodaux man is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly got caught driving drunk for a fourth time.

On Sunday at around 12:45 am, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of La Highways 3185 and 3107 in Thibodaux.

The driver was identified as Brie Chavez, 30, of Thibodaux and he admitted to having been drinking. He performed poorly on a sobriety test, but refused a breath test. Blood was drawn to determine his blood alcohol content level.


Officers also found a small bag of suspected cocaine in the suspect’s possession,

Chavez was booked in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a DWI charge (4th offense), possession of cocaine, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and improper vehicle lighting His bond is set at $55,200.

Oscar Pinto, 57, of Des Allemands given DWI charges this past week. This was Pinto’s second such offense.
