Bayou Blue woman escapes kidnapping

Lafourche authorities got a call April 27 from a Bayou Blue woman who said she had been kidnapped from her front porch, taken against her will and had jumped from the man’s vehicle to escape.

The woman was on her front porch when her alleged kidnapper – 56-year-old Brian Charles of Houma – drove up in black car, Lafourche sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Brennan Matherne said. When she approached the passenger-side door, he allegedly grabbed her and forced her inside the car, and sped away, the spokesman said.

Charles reportedly took the 20-something woman’s phone to prevent her from calling for help, Matherne said. She was able to grab it back and jump from the car in to the road, he said. Matherne said Charles drove off, leaving the woman stranded.

Deputies got a warrant for Charles’ arrest; he already had an outstanding warrant for not vaccinating his horses as required by state law.

Houma Police arrested Charles last Wednesday. He is charged with simple kidnapping and failure to vaccinate horses. Bond is set at $22,500.

Man wanted for 2015 attempted murder surrenders

Nearly a year to the day after allegedly shooting his roommate multiple times in the stomach, 34-year-old Tony Clark turned himself into authorities, Lafourche sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Brennan Matherne said.

The shooting occurred March 2, 2015, at the Lockport residence Clark and his roommate shared in the 200 block of East Lafourche Street, Matherne said. Deputies arrived just after 10:15 a.m. The front door was ajar and blood was visible from the doorway, the spokesman said. Inside, deputies found bullet casings, but no people, he said.

Clark’s roommate was admitted into a nearby hospital’s emergency room that same day, Matherne said.

Detectives learned Clark and the roommate had argued earlier in the day, Matherne said. Clark left the house, only to return a short time later with a firearm, he said. That’s when he reportedly opened fire, the spokesman said.

Clark’s bond is set at $250,000.

Thief admits stealing from elderly woman

A trusting elderly woman turned her bank card over to Michael Robinson to buy groceries; instead, he allegedly went on a spending spree, Lafourche authorities reported.

The 42-year-old Thibodaux man was charged May 2 with use of an access card as theft and theft of assets of an aged or disabled person, both of which are felony charges, Lafourche sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Brennan Matherne said.
