The weather was perfect. The racers were ready to roll.

And those in attendance had a great time.

The 2015 Heart & Soles Half-Marathon and 5K took place this weekend at its usual route at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

The event, which rolled for the sixth time this weekend, is the only distance race in the community, something that Terrebonne General Medical Center is proud of. The hospital teams up with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South to put on the race, which now features hundreds of runners annually.

Proceeds from the event stay here locally to provide cardiovascular screening and education to locals who are in need.

“It’s something that’s growing. A lot of people locally are more and more interested in running and their fitness,” TGMC Director of Marketing Rhonda Alfred said. “It’s grown since it’s started and it’s an event that people look forward to participating in year after year.

The 2015 race was arguably one of the best. With temperatures cool enough to allow runners to use either long or short sleeve attire, competitors and partygoers were able to get to the Civic Center to pass a good time.

Food and drinks were available to both racers and general public. Music was available on site, as well.

“It’s a family event,” Alfred said. “It’s an event that anyone can attend. We’ve always encouraged people to do their best, but do so at their own speed.”

Michelle Guidry and Cory Bourg were the overall Half-Marathon winners.

Full results for both the 5K and half-marathon will be featured next Wednesday.
