The Lafourche Council has opened its checkbook to pay legal fees for the parish president, and a few equipment purchases

But they also are seeking an opinion from the district attorney, as to whether employees who win appeals against the parish, should be reimbursed for legal costs.

At their Aug 14th meeting, the council agreed to reimburse Pariah President Jimmy Cantrelle for nearly $9,000 in legal fees when he hired an attorney to fight unfound accusations made to the La. Board of Ethics, against him.

But Councilman Jerry Jones voted against the Idea, and Councilman Corey Perrilloux abstained from the vote. Councilman Jerry LaFont was absent

When the council reached the agenda item. Council Chairman. Luci Sposito asked that an email be read from a former pariah employee who stated she won. a civil opinion against the pariah, spending $6,000in legal fees, and she was never reimbursed

The woman said in the letter. Employees have bad no one to reach out for help in this ad-mini stration’s wrong doings. I won my appeal at the cost of approximately $8,000 in legal fees which I am still paying off. now when roles are reversed, Mr. Cantrelle feels his fees needs to be paid against false claims? Maybe reimbursing employee legal fees would discourage harassment from this administration.

Councilman Michael Gros asked if this was common practice

Councilman Daniel Lorraine said yes.

“When you’re an elected official, there is some sort of insurance that protects you when you’re up here, whereas with an employee, that’s different. And I’m not against employees Lorraine said.

Councilman Jerry Jones a J so answered yea, but said, “if you’re going to pay for one. then you need to pay for all especially when you terminate an employee for no reason, and they’re coming back to ask us to be reimbursed.”

“”We have three or four employs who Live-legal claims and I feel their fees need to be paid.” Jones said.
