John Paul Vandercook Sr., 88, a native of Little Rock, Ark., and resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
Mr. Vandercook was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church. He was the director of Global Maritime Ministries and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his sons, John Jr. (Fran), Charles (Pat) and Philip (Sandy) Vandercook; daughter, Cherry (Ben) Blackwell; sisters, Jane Thompson, Virginia Poole, Bertha McIntyre and Charlotte Love; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Vandercook; parents, Venus and Margaritte Vandercook; brother, Russell Vandercook; and sister, Marie Townson.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Mulberry Baptist Church with services to follow. Burial will be at Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale, La. (Chauvin)
