The weather men predicted doom and gloom for Mardi Gras weekend.

But locals proved that one thing is for certain: We’re not afraid to get a little wet around these parts.

Yes. it did rain this weekend, but no. it didn’t stop locals from passing a good time at area parades.

Other than a parade adjusting it’s start time, by an hour, everything went off without a hitch riding before nice-sized crowds in both Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.

“We had a great time.” said Lockport native Buster Allemand. He and his family attended parades in both parishes throughout the weekend. “We bought ponchos and expected to be in a light crowd. But there were actually a lot of people who turned out to pass a good time.”

Indeed.

Friday was mostly clear weather-wise, which allowed for parades to roll as scheduled, without any delays.

The same happened Saturday as sun peaked through the skies and made for a warm, toasty ride for most throughout the area.

Late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the rains came, but the worst of the wet weather came overnight while people were sleeping.

To give locals a little extra time to dry off. the Krewe of Terreanians rode at 1:30 p.m.. instead of at 12:30 p.m.

But there were no other delays in the parade schedule.

At press-time on Monday afternoon, forecasts called for dry skies for Lundi Gras and wet weather late in the day on Mardi Gras. which should have allowed for all local parades to go off without a hitch before the rains came.

“We are from Louisiana. We have seen it all and we have been through it all.” Houma native Rosa Berthelot said. “We will not get scared by some clouds and some rain.”
