Lafayette was a two-year letter winner far the Nicholls State University men’s a basketball team, one of the key members of a team which won 20 games in the 2017-16 season. Before Nicholls Rutledge played at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He sixth, man for Nicholls.

Rutledge was one of the sharpest shooters in the entire Southland Conference. He averaged 10.4 points per game and shot 40 percent from behind the .-.-point tine In one game,, he made 11 5-pointers, a Nicholls school record.
