The final day for voter registration changes in advance of the Louisiana presidential primary election is Wednesday, Feb. 3. The date is significant because the primary, scheduled for March 5, is a closed primary, meaning only registered Republicans may vote for Republican presidential candidates, and only registered Democrats may vote for Democratic candidates.

Party affiliation is among the items voters may change between now and Wednesday.

Early voting is allowed Feb. 20, and Feb. 22 through Feb. 27.

Polls will be open March 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The primary purpose of this statewide election is for voters of the Democratic & Republican parties to express their preference for a person to be the nominee of the party for President of the United States and to elect members to their state central committee and parish executive committees.
