Robert Bob Henry Hassett, Jr., 93, a native of New Haven, Conn., and resident of Houma, La., died Jan. 24, 2016.

Mr. Hassett worked for the Federal Government prior to coming to Houma. He was employed by USDA Soil Conservation Service in Champaign, Ill., the Veterans Administration in St. Louis, Mo, and as an oilfield salesman for COR-Val, Inc. for over 20 years, prior to retiring at 80.


He served in the United States 8th Air Force, 34th Bomb Group, 4th Bomb Squadron, in England, and was a left waist gunner on a B-17G Bomber. He and his lead crew flew 30 missions while participating in our victory during WWII. Twenty-eight of those missions were to Germany, one for the Holland Invasion, and one to Czechoslovakia. He earned an ETO with 5 battle stars.

He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Geremia; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-children, C. Blanchard, III, Janet Roberts and Mrs. Roger (Patricia) Vick; and numerous step-grandchildren.

Burial is at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
