The transportation and transplanting of Roseau cane out of and within southern Louisiana parishes is prohibited by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LEAP), which has issued a quarantine on the Roseau Cane Scale, which is a small invasive insect that can de stray wide swaths of the plant in Louisians.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries sent out the reminder this past week in conjunction with the opening date of teal season, which are less than a month away.

LDWF said it wants to ad vise waterfowl hunters and fishermen of file quarantine and also the serious threat posed by the scale.

Waterfowl hunters are Baked to not do any of the following:

• Do not transport Roseau cane.

• Do not tie boats up to Roseau cane

-Remove all Roseau cane debris from boats prior to leaving local marinas.

Wash and drain boats at or near marinas with soapy water

Doing this will limit the spread of the scale and other vectors that could be the source of the die off of Roseau cane on our coast

The quarantine exists for all areas south of La. Highway 10 in Louisiana. That begins at the Mississippi/Louisiana state line and moves west until intersecting with U.S. Highway 171 in Vernon Parish, then moving south and continuing to U.S. Highway 190 in DeRidder until reaching the Sabine River and the Texas/Louisiana state line.

Roseau cane is an important storm barrier to our coast
