Twenty-one elementary schools in Terrebonne Parish were recognized with bronze awards from Healthier U.S. Schools Challenge (HUSSC), sponsored by the USDA Food and Nutrition Services.

The challenge is a voluntary national certification initiative for schools participating in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. It supports the Let’s Move Campaign of First Lady Michelle Obama by recognizing schools that are creating healthier school environments by promoting good nutrition and physical activity. The initiative encourages all schools to help students make healthier choices.

There are four levels of awards: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Award of Distinction. The bronze award carries a monetary incentive of $500. The names of winning schools are also listed on the Team Nutrition Website and a banner is provided for the school’s cafeteria.

The bronze award-winning schools in Terrebonne are: Acadian, Bayou Black, Bourg, Broadmoor, Coteau-Bayou Blue, Dularge, East Houma, Gibson, Grand Caillou, Honduras, Legion Park, Lisa Park, Montegut, Mulberry, Oakshire, Pointe-Aux-Chenes, Schriever, Southdown, Upper Little Caillou and Village East elementary schools.

Also being awarded was Caldwell Middle School.
