Two Houma suspects are in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after they were allegedly drag racing in Raceland.
At around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, deputies said they observed a car traveling 96 mph along La. Highway 182 in Raceland in a 65 mph zone.
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, but authorities said the driver continued, turning onto La. Highway 3087.
The driver then allegedly passed another car and that second car allegedly accelerated in an attempt to catch up.
Authorities said the second car got up to 118 mph and both cars refused to stop.
The first car continued into Terrebonne Parish and the second turned onto La. Highway 316 and continued about a half-mile before finally obeying authorities’ commands and pulling over.
The driver was identified as Cody Walston, of Houma, and he was immediately taken into custodv.
The passenger allegedly gave a false name to authorities, but was later identified as Megan El-lender, also of Houma.
Authorities discovered that she had an outstanding warrant for issuing worthless checks, and she was taken into custody.
Authorities said Ellender also found to have suboxone and narcotics only available in prescription in her possession.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thi-bodaux.
Walston was charged with aggravated flight from an officer and drag racing on public roads, as well as violations for speeding and window tint.
His bond is set at $6,600.
Ellender was booked on an outstanding warrant, and was also charged with resisting ar officer and possession of subox one and a legend drug. Her bond is $4,750.
Deputies said they are attempting to identify the other driver involved in the alleged drag racing incident.
The vehicle involved is described as a light-colored car possibly an older model Chevy.
