The Times of Houma-Thibodaux was named Newspaper of the Year in its division Saturday at the 135th Annual Louisiana Press Association Convention in New Orleans, La.

The Times competed against 10 newspapers – all dailies. This is the eighth consecutive year the newspaper has been named best in its division.


Also garnering top honors at the LPA convention were The Advocate, Baton Rouge, Division 1; The Ruston Daily Leader, Division 3; the West Side Journal, Port Allen, Division 4; and the Southwest Daily News, Division 5.

Fifty-four newspapers, publications and college/university student newspapers submitted 2,485 editorial and advertising entries. The South Carolina Press Association judged the competition.

Overall, The Times received 33 awards -12 first-place, 11 second-and 10 third-place honors.


The Times’ sister publication Point of Vue magazine also participated in the competition. POV received 5 first-place and 3 sec-ond-place awards.
