The 2017 prep baseball season is over for all but one local team.

Houma Christian is the last remaining local club – the only area team with a shot to win the State Championship.

The Warriors entered postseason as the No. 10 seed in Division II.

They’ve gotten hot in the playoffs and have beaten No. 7 St. John and No. 2 Cedar Creek – allowing just three combined runs in the wins.

With the victories, the Warriors will compete in the State Tournament this weekend.

They’ll play No. 11 Ascension Episcopal on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

A couple other local teams competed deep into post season this year, but weren’t able to have the same fortune the Warriors did.

In Division II, E.D. White was the No. 1 overall seed, but the Cardinals weren’t able to win a game.

E.D. White was upset in a twogame sweep at the hands of No. 8 St. Louis over the weekend, ending the team’s run a couple wins short of the school’s annual goal: the State Title.

Pitching plagued the Cardinals throughout the series, as St. Louis smashed home 17 combined runs in the two games, which enabled them to hold leads throughout both games.

Those hiccups on the mound were rare blemishes for a Cardinals’ staff that’s been flawless throughout the year – one of the best units in Louisiana.

In the 12 games before the playoffs, E.D. White allowed just 25 combined runs while also posting seven shutouts.

But against St. Louis, that same momentum wasn’t able to roll forward, and E.D. White struggled to get traction, despite playing on their home park.

The losses end the Cardinals season with 28 wins.

Coach Shane Trosclair said he’s proud of his team, despite their tough postseason run.

He added that he feels for the team’s seniors who worked so hard throughout the year to try and bring home the Division II State Championship.

That same sentiment was felt last week over at Covenant Christian Academy, because they, too, fell short in their quest to win it all.

The Lions beat St. Edmund to open postseason, but then lost to Ascension Episcopal last week to end the team’s season.

The past week was tough for the E.D. White baseball team, as the Cardinals lost a series against St. Louis to be eliminated from the Division II State Playoffs.
