Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said a traffic stop last week netted the arrests of a man and a woman on multiple drug-related and weapons charges.

On March 30, TPSO deputies were patrolling an area near Grand Caillou Road when they conducted a traffic stop on a white Toyota Scion. The stop was because the vehicle didn’t have a functioning license plate light.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he smaller a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside.

The deputy also allegedly observed a handgun inside of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was immediately identified as Michael Gregoire, 31, of Downsville. A female passenger, Megan Begay, 27, of Downsville, was also in the vehicle, as well as the couple’s 7 month old child.

After the initial investigation, TPSO’s K-9 Division was called in, as well as the Narcotics Task Force.

During investigation, authorities said that Gregoire admitted that he smoked marijuana in the vehicle while the woman and child were present.

A search of the vehicle led authorities to 11.3 grams of marijuana, 16 and a half Ecstasy pills, a 9mm handgun, $335 in cash, a digital scale and a container, which was used to conceal the illegal narcotics.

After more investigating, authorities arrested Gregoire for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (Ecstasy), possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, transactions involving drug proceeds and license plate license required.

Authorities also learned that Gregoire had been convicted of crimes in the past, which prevent him from legally owning a firearm. That information has led to an additional charge for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Begay was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (Ecstasy), possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile.

Both were booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

The child was safely released to a family member.
