A tropical storm warning remains in effect for both Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes as an area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico gets closer to shore.

The area is not yet formally a tropical storm and is being labeled as a “tropical cyclone” by the NHC.

The reason for the lack of development, according to forecasters, is the lack of a clear, well-defined center with thunderstorms wrapped around it.

The cyclone is, however, expected to better develop slowly throughout the day and earn the name Tropical Storm Cindy.

Over night, the NHC shifted the forecast track for the cyclone to near the Texas-Louisiana border – a westward jog from the Lafayette-area landfall which was forecast yesterday.

If that landfall area is accurate, our area should be spared the worst of the system’s winds, but will likely get battered by rain throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday as the storm’s lack of organization has kept rain showers all throughout the eastern quadrant of the cyclone.
