LUMCON teen event is Saturday

Want to learn more about south Louisiana’s coast?

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is hosting Family Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for teens ages 14-18 and their parents. The day is designed to teach young adults about oceanography.


The cost is $12 per person, and includes all activities, lunch and light refreshments.

Houma bus terminal designated smoke-, alcohol-free

The Good Earth Bus Terminal in Houma is a smoke-and alcohol-free zone again this Mardi Gras.


The zone was created to give families and people looking to enjoy Carnival free from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for South Louisiana (ADAC) is behind its creation.

ADAC said small barbeque pits, alcohol-free drinks and chairs are allowed.

Tree give-away set for Jan. 30


The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board’s annual Tree Giveaway is set for Saturday, Jan. 30.

Apache Corp. is donating 200 native species container trees and more than 800 native species seedlings to the cause. Terrebonne residents are limited to two trees in 3-to 5-gallon containers per household. All trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Terrebonne Parish Library Main Branch.
