Shedding light on the darkness of drug addition and overdose, Millie Mattered Moonlight Memorials are being held across the state all summer, including Houma. A memorial will be held on June 3, at 7:30 p.m., at Zydeco Harley-Davidson. The event will be hosted by S.A.R.A.H. (Seeking Action Raising Awareness and Hope), and will recognize the thousands of lives in Louisiana that were taken too soon.

“We must join together in numbers to let others know they are not alone, and be a voice for those who know longer have one. If we can save one family from grieving an unnecessary death, we are accomplishing our objective,” said Lilly Harvey. Harvey’s daughter Millie died in 2017 from a fentanyl overdose. Following her daughter’s death, Harvey turned her pain to purpose and founded Millie Mattered Overdose and Addiction Advocacy.

Partnering with S.A.R.A.H., the two organization are working together to bring awareness to communities across the state. The Houma event will feature live music, guest speakers, and leaders from the recovery community. Participants will receive glow in the dark armbands, and illuminated memorial cups will be available for purchase. Banners with images of loved ones that were lost will also be on display.
