Walter Joseph Hebert, 83, a native of Donner, La., and a resident of Gibson, La., died Friday, January 18, 2008.

He is survived by one brother, Joseph W. Hebert; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Hebert and Mamie G. Hebert; five brothers, Maurice P. Hebert, John L. Hebert, Gerald J. Hebert, Emanuel J. Hebert and Henry A. Hebert; and six sisters, Agnes H. Melinda, Gladys H. Adams, Edna H. Fanguy, Birty H. Savage, Ida M. Hebert and Margaret V. Hebert.


Walter was a retired police officer with the Houma City Police. He was an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts and a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.

His family wishes to offer a special thanks to his niece, Yvette Grabert McMillin and his sister-in-law, Delores H. Hebert, for their years of care giving.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, and 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008, with Liturgy of the Word to follow Wednesday. Internment will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
