Richard Henry Brunies Jr., 81, a native of Bucktown, LA. and a resident of Grand Isle, LA., died at 7:52 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007.


Services will be Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife, Vernice Vizier Brunies; one son, Gary W. Brunies and wife, Theresa; one brother, Melvin “Windy” Brunies; numerous nieces and nephews, William Kirsch and Gladys Kirsch, Warren Brunies Sr. and Margie Brunies, Pierre Cazalot and Laura Cazalot, Ferdinand and Marianne Dimm and Leo “Red” Brunies; one grandson and namesake, Richard Brunies; two granddaughters, Nikki Brunies and Dana Bernier; and one great-granddaugher, Madison.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. Brunies Sr. and Laura DuQuecron.

He was a Catholic and a parishioner of Lady of the Isle Catholic Church. He was a decorated veteran of World War II serving as staff sergeant in the 25th infantry. He was a councilman for the town of Grand Isle during the 1970s.

He was a very caring man who enjoyed helping and pleasing friends and family.

He retired from Exxon after 30 years.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
