Mark your calendars for the Celebrate the Child Event and annual Houma-Terrebonne Downtown Christmas Parade on December 2, 2023!
The Celebrate the Child Event is presented by MacDonell Children’s Services, the Haven, and CASA of Terrebonne, and will take place on December 2, 2023, from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Rotary Centennial Plaza. There will be a Kids Zone featuring free crafts and pictures with Santa Claus, and the Terrebonne Parish Library will host story time from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Further, MacDonell Children Services will host their Christmas Tree Decorating Contest from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Teams will deck their trees out with classic, crazy, or original decorations, competing for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and People’s Choice awards. Entry into the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest is $20, with all proceeds going towards MacDonell Children’s Services. Trees entered into the Christmas Tree Decorating contest will be on display in the Courthouse Square! Food and drinks will be available for purchase.“We are so excited to be bringing back our Christmas Tree Decorating event,” said Heidi Pellegrin with MacDonell Children’s Services. “We participated in the Blackberry Festival this past may as our main fundraiser, but still wanted to do something during the holiday season for our community. This decorating contest is something everyone can get excited about–we invite families, groups of friends, office workers, and more to come out and get into the Christmas spirit together!”

Following the Celebrate the Child Event, the Annual Houma-Terrebonne Downtown Christmas Parade will roll at 5:00 p.m. The parade will begin at Terrebonne High School and continue down Main Street, and will end at the corner of Barrow and School Street. This year’s parade will feature 35 floats, culminating with the much-anticipated tree lighting ceremony beginning around 7:30 p.m. on the Courthouse steps. The TPCG Administration will be in attendance, along with with Santa and Mrs. Claus!
