A 69-year-old Houma man is charged with arson after allegedly igniting a blaze at a residence where three adults and two children were present.

On July 22 at approximately 5:48 a.m., Houma Police Department Officers, along with the Houma Fire Department, responded to a residential fire in the 500 block of Engeron Street.

The suspect was identified at Lamar Cooley, 69, of Houma.

During investigation, authorities revealed that the suspect used a type of accelerant to ignite a fire on the exterior of the residence.

Cooley allegedly was having a feud with one of the people who lived in the home and that appears to be the motive for the fire.

Occupying the residence at the time of the fire were three adults and two children – ages 6 and 3.

Cooley was located and arrested without incident.

The damage to the home was minor and no injuries were reported.

The suspect is charged with one count of aggravated arson and five counts of attempted second-degree murder.
