Need something to do? How about visiting the zoo! Throughout August, Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is offering Louisiana residents half off the regular ticket price.

“That means adults, seniors and children visit for half-price during August, all while experiencing 100 percent of the fun of a visit to one of the country’s prettiest zoos,” said Sarah Burnette, the zoo’s public relations director.

In the three years following Hurricane Katrina, a great deal of work has been done to restore and improve Audubon Zoo. From the highly heralded Insectarium to the return of the sea lions and the Swamp Train, the zoo remains a top attraction in the Big Easy.

To help beat the heat, a wading pool has been added at Monkey Hill. There are also strategically-placed misting stations throughout the zoo to help visitors chill out. And, of course, Louisianans can grab a frozen lemonade, sno-ball or ice cream bar as they stroll through one of the country’s consistently top-ranked zoos.

Tickets prices for August only are $6.25 for adults, $3.75 for children or $4.75 for seniors. Residents must show proof of residency to receive the discount.

With more than 1,500 animals representing 360 species – many of them rare and endangered – Audubon Zoo is something to see. The Louisiana black bears, gorillas, elephants and rare Asian hornbills … they’ve all asked for you.
