Fall in love all over again at the first-ever Lover’s Lane in lieu of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 8 at the Holiday Inn of Houma. The semi-formal/formal event for couples begins at 7:30 p.m.

Raceland resident and hopeless romantic Terrolyn Mitchell of Charisma Creations formed the event to ensure that every couple has the vision of this special event for a lifetime.

Mitchell recalled a love story from her recent Lover’s Lane contest of a Thibodaux couple that met in college. The man had a tragic accident and the woman stayed by his side.

The two were married nearly 35 years ago and still sharing a special love. “The children are grown and now the couple is enjoying the love and comfort of one another everyday,” Mitchell said. “This is what you call total commitment for someone you love.”

Charisma Creations, an elite planning team, wanted to treat the surrounding communities a small taste of what real love feels like on Valentine’s Day, the organizer said.

“We thrive on bringing a simple idea to life. We take the stress of planning a special event for your significant other into our hands so that you can relax and enjoy each other’s company,” she explained.

For the cocktail hour, Lover’s Lane will feature an array of Cork & Bottle Fine Wines, cheeses and appetizers. Lovers will dine on a slightly blackened tilapia, buttery yams and steamed vegetables from Copeland’s of New Orleans restaurant.

Michael Baptiste and Company of New Orleans will provide musical accompaniment during the dinner. His band Hot Ticket will also perform.

Mitchell started Charisma Creations in Raceland almost two years ago as a hobby, coordinating events for friends and family. She grew to love watching couples exchange wedding nuptials and family members celebrate momentous occasions.

But the Valentine’s Day event is something new for the event planner.

“I haven’t heard of this type of event being done in this area before. A lot of people go to Mardi Gras balls and wear their beautiful gowns and suits that day and then hang them up in their closets,” she said, saying the upscale event creates another opportunity to dress for a memorable night out.

Tickets for the event are $100 per couple.

Twenty percent of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Thibodaux’s Circle of Hope.

“Our projection is to grow Lover’s Lane phenomenally and become a highly-anticipated annual event for our community and southern region,” Mitchell said. At the same time, the event will give back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to a worthy organization.
