Sounds like a tax season chant, but the “Go for Baroque” classical concert Sunday, Feb. 24, is really a tribute to the kings of the genre.

The concert will team the South Louisiana Community Orchestra with the Lafayette Community Strings and Nicholls State University violin students. The resulting 55-piece string orchestra will perform works by legends Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and George Frederic Handel.

The concert will be held at H.L. Bourgeois High School’s auditorium at 3 p.m. Tickets are $3 in advance at Fabregas Music Store, or $5 at the door the day of the concert.

The Baroque musical era saw composers and performer use more elaborate musical ornamentation. In fact, the era formed a major portion of the classical music canon. Baroque music is also credited with establishing opera as a musical form.
