August 29, 2013Dear Editor,
I’m not Little Miss Muffin.
I’m dirty
I’m hard to look at
I’m the girl you don’t want your daughter to be friends with
I’m the woman you hope your son doesn’t marry
I’m the coworker who gets on your nerves because
She makes more money than you
A woman’s place is making muffins
Becoming a muffin
Little Miss Muffin.
Unfortunately I have lost my kitchen.
If I’m Little Miss Muffin-it’s rape.
If I’m a pristine daughter of the patriarchy- it’s rape.
If I’m a good wife making muffins- it’s rape.
If I’m a 14 year- old prison inmate- it’s rape.
If I’m a bad girl-it’s rape.
If I’m a drug addict- it’s rape.
If I’m a prostitute-it’s rape.
If I’m ugly-it’s rape.
If I’m an unwed mother-it’s rape.
If I’m gay-it’s rape.
If I’m fat-it’s rape.
If I’m a virgin-it’s rape.
If I’m not a virgin-it’s rape.
If I am fourteen in Terrebonne Parish, and you are an adult guard-it’s rape.
Women and children’s advocates and activists will not be silent as long as Terrebonne continues to belch up idiotic comments and victim blaming.
