Terrebonne General Medical Center’s Chest Pain Center was awarded the highest level of accreditation for the second time after being surveyed by the internationally recognized Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPS).

TGMC joins an elite group of hospitals in the world to hold this distinction.

As the leader in cardiovascular care in both the region and state, TGMC with the help of our Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) physicians earned high marks with a 98% of heart attack patients receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within 57- minutes of arrival or less, compared to the national guideline of 90 minutes. PCI opens blocked blood vessels and restores blood flow to the heart. The earlier PCI is performed, the better the outcome for the patient.

TGMC and CIS continues to be on the forefront of interventional cardiac care within the most technologically advanced heart catheterization and peripheral labs, state-of-the-art cardiac operating suites and innovative research techniques performed only at TGMC by the top leading, internally-recognized cardiology and cardiovascular specialists.

“We are proud to once again receive the Chest Pain Center Accreditation,” said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO. “South Louisiana has one of the highest incidences of heart disease in the nation. We are constantly striving to innovate and improve patient outcomes, and thanks to the dedication of our CIS physicians and staff our team has systems in place to ensure that patients experiencing a heart attack receive prompt and the highest quality care leading to better patient outcomes.”
