A Houma man was arrested Tuesday night after he hurled a half-full beer can at a woman, striking her in the back of the head.

Houma Police were called to the 600 block of Marmande Street around 9:16 p.m. to investigate a simple battery complaint, said Lt. Todd Duplantis, department spokesman.

A 25-year-old woman told police a man walked up to her in the middle of Ellender Street near Marmande cursing and ordering her to get off his block, Duplantis said. After telling the man that it was her neighborhood, too, the woman turned to continue walking.

The woman told police Terry L. “Papa” Moses, 42, of 531 Marmande St., hurled a half-full can of beer, which hit her in the back of the head and caused a small bump, Dupantis said. Moses began cursing the woman again. She turned and walked toward the 600 block of Marmande Street when Moses ran up behind her and began punching the back of her head, the woman told police.

The woman ran to a friend’s house on that street and called police.

Based on the woman’s description, police located Moses sitting on his porch, Duplantis said. He admitted to officers that he’d had an argument with a lady on the street, but denied having hit her.

Moses was arrested for aggravated battery and simple battery.
