The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will close the Hale Boggs Bridge in both directions where it crosses the Mississippi River near Luling at 7 p.m. on Friday, so the structure can be used to transport construction cranes from the east bank of the river to the west bank.

Expansion work will also take place on the bridge during the weekend.

The Hale Boggs Bridge will reopen to motor vehicle traffic on Jan. 16 at 4 a.m. Motorists are directed to cross the Mississippi River using either the Huey P. Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish or the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Gramercy and Wallace.
