Houma man charged in assault on wife

Houma Police arrested a local man Monday morning after he allegedly pushed his wife and threatened her with a kitchen knife, police said.


Stacy A. Wilson, 41, of 312 Dixie St., was charged with negligent injuring, two counts of domestic abuse battery and aggravated assault, police reported.


Wilson also struck a 16-year-old female who was present when he and his wife argued. As the encounter escalated, police said Wilson pushed his wife into the kitchen counter before brandishing the knife. When he went to leave the house, he punched out the glass side window of his vehicle, shattering glass on a 7-year-old child inside the car. Police said both children received minor injuries in the incident.

Pair arrested after breaking into Golden Meadow camp


Two Golden Meadow men were arrested Friday after stealing crabs from nearby traps, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said.


Cory Cheramie, 39, of 164 East 179th St., and Gary J. Cheramie, 31, of 144 172nd St., were charged with criminal trespassing, simple burglary and theft of property.

On Thursday, the owners of a Golden Meadow camp said they drove their boat to their camp only to find the two Cheramies inside about to boil crabs they had taken from nearby traps, the sheriff’s office said. When the owners arrived, Cory and Gary Cheramie jumped in their own boat and sped away.


The camp owners gave deputies a description of the men and the numbers on their boat.


Water Patrol deputies traced the boat to Cory Cheramie. They later learned Gary Cheramie was his accomplice. Both men admitted to the crime, deputies said.

Deputies learned Cory Cheramie climbed through a window and opened the door to the camp, the sheriff’s office said. He filled his boat with cleaning items, toiletries and other items from the camp.


The camp owners said fishing lines, boots and a tackle box were also missing, the sheriff’s office said. The total value of the missing items was $340.


Cory Cheramie was also charged with obstruction of justice for withholding information from authorities. District Judge Bruce Simpson set bond at $5,000. Gary Cheramie’s bond was set at $2,000.

Houma man caught ‘beer handed’


Houma Police arrested a local man Saturday afternoon after he allegedly pushed a 53-year-old man to the ground and robbed him, police said.


Keith Ross, 45, of 225 Brooklyn Ave., was arrested at 3:06 p.m. and charged with simple robbery.

Ross allegedly approached the man on Park Avenue near Gouaux Avenue as he was walking home, police said. Ross pushed the man to the ground and then took his grocery bag, which contained three cans of beer, and then ran down Park Avenue toward Lafayette Street.


Based on the victim’s description, police spotted Ross in the front yard of a residence in the 300 block of Columbus Street. Officers said Ross was drinking a 32-ounce can of Miller High Life beer and was holding what appeared to be the victim’s grocery bag.


Ross was charged and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Golden Meadow woman arrested for sexual battery


A Golden Meadow woman was charged with second-degree sexual battery of a male victim Friday in connection with an incident that happened March 31, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.


Jamie Louviere, 22, of 122 Louviere Lane, and Sammy Chacon, 24, of P.J.’s Fed Pond, Room 29, were charged after the victim told Golden Meadow Police he was assaulted in a motel room. The man told officers he had been given a pill that caused him to pass out. When he awoke, the victim said he had a severe pain in his anus, according to the sheriff’s office release.

The man told police that there had been a party in his room, and that while he was passed he had been assaulted with salt and other foreign objects, the release said.


The man received treatment at Lady of the Sea Hospital for injuries sustained in the assault.


The case was turned over to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and, based on the investigation, detectives arrested Louviere and Chacon. The two were booked at the South Lafourche Sub-station and transported to the Detention Center in Thibodaux.

District Judge Bruce Simpson later released Chacon, citing a lack of probably cause, according to the sheriff’s office.


Louviere is being held at the Lafourche Parish Jail on a $1,000 bond. She is also on a probation hold because of a probation violation.


Teen arrested for weapon, drug possession

A missing license plate turned into more serious weapon and drug possession charges for a Houma teen Thursday night.


Houma Police stopped Jocobby Lee, 19, of 2618 Daniel Turner Court, around 8:35 p.m. after Officer Thomas Rhodes noticed the car ahead of him in the Houma Tunnel did not have a license plate. He stopped the 1995 Ford Crown Victoria on Aycock Street, police said.


Rhodes found a hand-rolled cigar paper containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a loaded handgun, a clear plastic bag containing several pieces of suspected crack cocaine and over $500 in cash.

Lee was arrested for operating a vehicle with no license plate, possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, and possession of a firearm in the presence of narcotics. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.


Police said the crack cocaine weighed approximately 9 grams, and has a street value of over $900. The suspected marijuana weighed approximately 4.8 grams.


Man charged after crashing into fences

A Houma man was arrested Thursday morning after he drove through a Cleveland Street yard and struck a fence, Houma Police said.


Clinton Roberts, 24, of 1300 Laban Ave., Apt. #62, was issued a summons for hit-and-run driving in connection with the incident, police said.


The homeowner reported the damage to police. She told officers Roberts drove through her yard, located in the 200 block of Cleveland Street, damaging the fence in the process. After searching the area, police found a fence in the 1200 block of Laban Avenue also damaged by what appeared to be the same vehicle, police said.

About three hours, while patrolling the area, officers found the vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Avalanche, in Laban Avenue.


Woman arrested for shedding clothes outside lounge


After first shedding her pants and underwear inside a Houma lounge and then discarding her remaining clothing in the street Wednesday night, a local woman was arrested for obscenity, Houma Police said.

Nancy Ross, 25, of 250 Morrison Ave., was arrested at 10:55 p.m. outside a lounge in the 7000 block of Main Street, police said.


When officers arrived, Ross was sitting outside the lounge door with no pants or underwear, police said. As the officers approached, the woman became belligerent and started walking toward them with her fists balled up. After she refused to stop, the officers sprayed her with Freeze +p pepper spray. Ross stopped, leaned over a parked car and then stripped off her shirt and bra, police said.


The officers ordered Ross, now naked, to lie down and she complied, police said.

A female officer was called to the scene, and assisted Ross in redressing.


Witnesses inside the lounge told police that Ross had been dancing when she pulled down her pants and underwear, police said. Lounge employees confronted the Houma woman and escorted her out of the building. Police reported once outside the lounge, Ross became violent and was attempting to damage parked vehicles in the area.


Ross was charged with obscenity and resisting an officer. She was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Victim chases down his stolen car; thief also nabbed with drugs


A 26-year-old man flagged Houma Police down on East Street late Wednesday, shouting “He stole my car.”


The man was running after a blue Ford Expedition as he yelled for officers, police reported.

Police said the man jumped on the side of the SUV and put the Expedition in park as he pulled the driver from the vehicle.


The victim told police he had earlier reported the Expedition had been taken without his permission (unauthorized use).

The driver, Everette A. Howard, 19, of 3625 Thomas Drive, Houma, had no driver’s license. In addition, he had altered the temporary tag on the SUV, police said.

Howard also had seven white rocks of suspected cocaine in his possession. The drugs were seized for evidence, police said.

Howard was charged with operating a vehicle with no driver’s license, misuse of a temporary tag and driving with no seat belt. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Swimming pool goes missing

The pool was there when the 44-year-old owner moved out of Manny Court, but when she returned Wednesday afternoon to retrieve it, the family-sized pool had disappeared.

Houma Police were called to the woman’s trailer to investigate the theft around 4:21 p.m. The woman told police she left the blue and white pool assembled in the backyard of the residence. She was given permission to leave it by the owner of the trailer park until she could move it, police said. When she arrived that day to get her 16-foot by 4-foot pool, someone had taken it.

Officers patrolled the area, but were unable to locate the missing swimming pool, police said. The case remains under investigation.

Car burglary lands Houma man in jail

A Houma man and teen female were arrested early Thursday after breaking into a car outside a Main Street lounge, Houma Police said.

Police responded to the criminal property complaint in the 7000 block of Main Street around 1:07 a.m. Witnesses said the couple was spotted breaking the window of a 1994 Mercury Marquee and trying to enter the car, according to police.

Based on witnesses’ descriptions, police found the two at the intersection of Gabasse Street and Park Avenue.

The male, Matt Marcel, 20, of 2374 Coteau Road, was arrested for simple burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, police said. After he got belligerent toward the officers, a resisting an officer charge was added.

The 15-year-old female was charged with curfew violation and was released to her mother, police said.

Woman arrested for falsifying DV complaint

Houma Police arrested a local woman last Wednesday after officers determined she falsely accused her husband of beating her, according to police.

Carol Kraemer, 48, of #3 Texas Ave., Houma, told officers on April 6 that she and her husband had argued, after which he beat her and then left their home, according to police.

When the officers contact her husband, the man admitted leaving the residence to avoid problems with his wife.

After further investigation, officers determined Carol Kraemer had lied about the incident. Police then issued a summons for filing a false police report.

Homeless man arrested after drunken display on Main Street

Houma Police arrested a homeless man for disturbing the peace by intoxication last Tuesday night after receiving complaints that he was approaching cars at a traffic light and asking for money.

Police said Ricky Roddy, 45, appeared to be highly intoxicated when he was caught panhandling at the intersection of Lafayette and Main streets in Houma around 10:54 p.m.

According to officers, Roddy had trouble standing and was staggering as he approached motorists.

Roddy was charged and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail, police said.

Lafourche deputies foil couple’s illegal romantic fling

Lafourche Parish deputies arrested a Colfax man last Wednesday morning after he drove his vehicle through a yard and parked behind the Galliano Centroplex with intentions of having “relations” with his female passenger, a sheriff’s office spokesman reported.

Larry Weidel said deputies responded to the call and located the couple’s vehicle in a field behind the recreational complex. To reach the secluded spot, the driver had to travel through a yard on East 128th Street in Galliano.

Deputies arrested Tommy L. Watkins, 27, of 140 Watkins Lane, shortly after he informed them he had a firearm under the driver’s seat of his vehicle, Weidel said.

With Watkins’ voluntary consent, deputies found a small, loaded semi-automatic handgun in a black case. The gun contained a 30-round magazine fully loaded with 9mm hollow point bullets, the spokesman said.

A second weapon, a semi-automatic .380-caliber handgun, was found under the passenger seat, Weidel said. The serial numbers of the handgun had been filed off, he said.

Weidel said the .380-caliber gun was also loaded with seven rounds in the magazine.

Inside the vehicle, deputies also found a small green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, inside the glove compartment of the vehicle. Weidel said Watkins told deputies the guns and marijuana belonged to him. All three items were seized as evidence.

Watkins was charged with possession of marijuana; criminal trespassing; possession of a firearm with obliterated numbers; and illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of Schedule I narcotics. He was booked at the South Lafourche Sub-station and transported to the Detention Center in Thibodaux.

State District Judge Bruce Simpson set his bond at $2,000.

Weidel said the maximum penalty for these offenses is up to 20 years in jail and more than $16,000 in fines.

The female passenger was released and not charged in this incident, he said.

Speeder arrested on drug chages

Houma Police arrested a local man on drug charges shortly after he sped through a radar check on Main Street last Monday.

Martin Simmons, 25, of 3220 Camilla Ave., was clocked driving 65 mph in a 35 mph speed zone on La. 24 near Banks Street around 11:44 a.m., police said. When officers stopped Simmons’ 2007 gray Dodge Charger, they discovered the Houma man was wanted for failure to appear for possession or marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and for a child restraint violation.

Police arrested Simmons for reckless operation, no driver’s license on person and the warrants. Drug charges were added when officers found a small clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana inside the car, police said.

The narcotics were seized for evidence.

Simmons was booked and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Raceland man arrested for dumping trash

Lafourche Parish deputies arrested a Raceland man last Monday and are searching for his cousin after the two dumped a load of trash in a ditch over the weekend.

Water Patrol deputy Teddy Granier responded to a complaint from a parish pump operator that the trash had been left in a ditch near a water pumping station behind Bracoto and Kohn streets in Raceland, according to a sheriff’s spokesman.

Included with the trash n old fishing lines, empty cardboard boxes, electrical equipment and wood n were receipts, magazines and various pieces of paperwork bearing the name of Steve Sheffield, said Larry Weidel. Granier went to both Thibodaux addresses in search of Sheffield with no luck.

The deputy left a message for the Thibodaux man, which were returned later that evening, Weidel said.

The two met, and Sheffield, after being advised of his rights, told the deputy he had cleaned his attic out of the weekend and had hired two men n Gary Major, 46, of 260 Triple Oaks St., Raceland, and his cousin, Lawrence Hill n with a truck and flatbed trailers to throw the trash at a dumpsite.

According to Weidel, Sheffield said the men were taking the trash to a dumpsite near Raceland. The charge per load to dump the trash was $5, Sheffield told Granier.

Major told Granier he was told it was OK to dump the trash on the side of the road near the pump station, Weidel said. Major agreed to return to the site and pick up the trash as soon as possible.

Major was arrested and charged with trash dumping. Hill is being sought by deputies, and will be arrested when he returns to Raceland, Weidel said.
