State police seized 10-1/2 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $10,000, from a Houma man Monday afternoon.

A confidential source told authorities that Dion Stokes was delivering the marijuana to someone at the Plantation Truck Plaza on La. Highway 311, Troop C spokesman Trooper Gilbert Dardar said. The truck stop was not involved in the illegal activity.

Troopers teamed with Houma Police and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office to set up surveillance on the parking lot. Stokes was spotted carrying a large, green duffle bag containing the drug stash. Authorities stopped Stokes and searched the bag. Inside, they found seven bags of marijuana, Dardar said.

Stokes consented to having the 1999 Freightliner 18-wheeler he was driving searched. Dardar said troopers found another half-pound of marijuana in the vehicle. Officers also found a number of plastic bags with marijuana inside, indicating that Stokes’ load was larger than the 10-1/2 pounds seized. The marijuana and three digital scales were seized.

State police charged Stokes with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
