The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and Wildlife and Fisheries will host a hunter’s education field day at 8 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Patterson Civic Center. The class will move to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Shooting Range.


Field days are for students who have completed the LDWF home study hunter education course and must complete a field day to receive certification. Participants may register for the field day at www.wlf.la.gov.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a free hunter safety course Aug. 24-25.

The course is open to anyone 10 years of age or older. The Saturday class will be at the Lafourche Parish Government Complex, and the Sunday class will be at the LPSO Shooting Range. Class will be from 8-11 a.m. both days.


The class will cover: hunter responsibility and ethics; how firearms work and firearms safety; survival and first aid skills; firearm handling skills and hunting techniques; wildlife identification; game care, and wildlife conservation and management.

Students must attend both days of class and pass written and practical exams to receive certification. Class size is limited, and students may register at www.lpso.net/training.htm. Participants may also call the LPSO Training Academy at (985) 449-4480 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
