Deputy Clerk of Court Theresa Robichaux will transition into the top position of that office upon the retirement of Bobby Boudreaux next summer after defeating lawyer Louis “Bubba” Watkins 15,553 to 7,590 for 67.2 percent of the vote during Saturday’s primary election.

In a race that gained attention normally reserved for higher positions of parish government, Robichaux said that voters saw through claims, accusations and suggestions of impropriety to select her.

“To me, the victory was a vindication of Mr. Bobby Boudreaux and the way he conducted his time in office,” Robichaux said. “By electing me, they got the integrity and experience that has been in that office.”

Robichaux accused her challenger of conducting a negative campaign that “was turning people off.” She said she took the high road and, “sailed to victory.”

While claiming that the overall workings of the Clerk of Court office are sound, Robichaux said she still would like to see a streamlining of the jury pool and said it could save taxpayers more than $100,000 a year.

“I want to create a website to make it easier for the people who access the clerk’s office,” she said. “They can click on jury department and find out if they have to be there for jury duty. It would save people a trip to the courthouse in person.”

Robichaux has been employed in the office for 24 years.
