Two double hull oil tank barges – both built to the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA ”90) requirements – floated into Reinauer Transportation Companies’ Staten Island, N.Y., facility in December.

The barges, RTC 26 and RTC 27, were built at Lockport’s Bollinger Marine Fabricators LLC and Amelia’s Bollinger Shipyards Inc.

In celebration, Bollinger and Reinauer signed a deal for the Tri-parish shipyard to build a sister ship to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2008.

Contract terms for the deal were not disclosed.

“Our signing for the third unit with Reinauer is a great testament to our facilities’ workmanship and dedication in making these units the best in the industry,” said Chris Bollinger, executive vice president of new construction.

The RTC 26 and RTC 27 have a 28,000 Bbl capacity, and measure over 297 feet long, with a 54-foot beam and a 13-foot depth. Each is outfitted with the Beacon Finland Ltd. JAK 200 tug/barge couple system, which Bollinger officials say is designed to increase operating efficiency and enhance safety and reliability by operating as a dual mode ITB. They have six cargo tanks.

The barges are classed Lakes, Bays & Sound (Inland) Tank Barges, ABS +A1 Oil Tank Barge, and are U.S. Coast Guard certified.

They will primarily be used for bunkering and harbor service in ports on the U.S. East Coast.

OPA ’90 compliant, Lakes, Bays & Sounds, ABS and USCO certified tank barge RTC 26 was recently delivered from Bollinger to Reinauer Transportation for use in the harbor service in ports on the nation’s northeast coast. * Photo courtesy of BOLLINGER SHIPYARDS
