If you’ve been wanting to shop in downtown Thibodaux n but couldn’t because of your nine-to-five job n you can make your purchases while enjoying a free block party Thursday, April 19, at 507 W. 3rd St. in Thibodaux from 5 to 7 p.m. as part of Jubilee, Nicholls State University’s six-week festival of the arts and humanities.

Most downtown Thibodaux businesses will be extending their hours of operation Thursday, participating in the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce’s Business Card Exchange, a program that provides “an opportunity for members to network,” said chamber President and CEO Kathy Benoit.

The block party will have music by Just in Time, and free food, courtesy of sponsors Cingular Wireless, the Lorio Foundation, City of Thibodaux, and Thibodaux Main Street.

“Some of the shops will also be offering refreshments,” Benoit said.

“We have the Business Card Exchange monthly,” she said, “but this one in April is special because it’s a downtown block party.”

As part of Arts Alive, local artists and craftsmen will be offering their creations for sale at the festival.

The Lorio Foundation, whose location will be the hub of the party, is a non-profit organization which funds grants for other non-profits in the Thibodaux area, Benoit said.

Call the chamber at (985) 446-1187 for more information.
