Thibodaux native Brian Clausen has been named director of environmental health and safety at Nicholls State University.

“We are very fortunate to have attracted and hired such a high caliber person,” said Mike Davis, assistant vice president for administration. “Brian brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism to this job. He will contribute greatly to our efforts to make this campus safe and better prepared to handle any type of emergency.”

A 1999 graduate of Nicholls with a Bachelor of Arts in general studies, Clausen’s professional experience spans more than two decades. His previous positions include manager of safety and security for McDermott Inc; senior safety analyst and manager of performance development for DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations; and manager for Union National Insurance Company.

As the new director of environmental health and safety at Nicholls, Clausen will supervise a comprehensive safety program for the entire university.

“I am excited to have this opportunity,” Clausen said. “As director, my goal is to continue to implement a program that heightens the visibility and confidence in the department. I look forward to working with the administration, faculty and staff.”

A lifelong resident of Thibodaux, Clausen is married to Houma native Mary Cenac Clausen. They have two children – Samuel, a graduate of Nicholls in culinary arts, and Sarah, currently enrolled in the Nicholls nursing program. Clausen’s hobbies include golfing, fishing and relaxing at his camp on Lake Verret.
