Delta Wave Communications, Inc., based outside of Morgan City, has released the ROV/AUVTrac, the only GPS device capable of tracking underwater objects on a global basis.

According to company officials, the device is able to keep tabs on buoys, ROVs and AUVs across the world.

The ROV/AUVTrac is designed to burst transmit vehicle GPS coordinates at user-defined intervals once the vehicle surfaces. The device uses Iridium’s global satellite network for tracking, and can transmit data to and from equipment.

Mark Bonner, Delta Wave’s vice president of sales, said the unit is based around the Iridium Talladega 9601A Short Burst Data transceiver and the Trident Helix Ver.2 processor.

Both are supplied exclusively by Trident Sensors, Ltd., of the UK to Delta Wave Communications for the oil and gas industry clients, he noted.

ROV/AUVTrac is engineered for deep-sea (6000m) and extreme-environment applications, and has an extremely long battery life to serve extended duration missions or long periods prior to recovery. Utilizing the Iridium satellite network in conjunction with GPS positioning, the two-way communications provide global, high volume data retrieval and remote reprogramming of missions, Borner said.
