Four Tri-parish physicians are among those Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed to the Louisiana Medical Advisory Board last week.

Drs. A.J. Delahoussaye, H. Carson McKowen, Sarat Donepudi and Raja Talluri have been tapped for the board.

The state’s Medical Advisory Board reviews cases provided by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to determine the visual or physical ability of an applicant for a driver’s license. If the board determines an impairment or disability that may hinder a person’s ability to reasonable control and operate a vehicle exists, it can lead to the suspension or revocation of the motorist’s license.

In all, Jindal appointed 18 board members, all of whom are subject to state Senate confirmation. The nominees are submitted to the governor by the Louisiana State Medical Society and the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists.

Delahoussaye is a Houma ophthalmologist and medical director of SEECA. He has published research papers with “Life Sciences Journal” and was named the Patriotic Citizen of the Year by the United Veterans League for providing free eye care to local veterans and their families.

McKowen is a neurologist and the owner of the Southeast Neuroscience Center in Thibodaux.

Donepudi is a general surgeon at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center in Vacherie.

Talluri is an internist at Internal Medicine in Thibodaux.

He is also the medical director at The Rural Health Clinic in Vacherie.

All three physicians reside in Thibodaux.
