Betting on the Louisiana Lottery Corporation’s quality is a sure thing.

The state’s lottery is the first in the nation to receive industry verification of its quality assurance processes, according to a department release.

The North American Association of State & Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) issued a set of best practices, Quality Assurance of Product Development in the Lottery Industry in April 2004, and outlined a rigorous verification process the following January, the release said.

Last November, the Louisiana Lottery achieved verification in two areas of Quality Assurance Best Practices applicable to lotteries.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the Lottery,” corporation President Rose Hudson said. “It speaks volumes to the competencies and high standards held by the Lottery’s managers and staff n I’m exceptionally proud of their hard work and dedication to excellence.”

According to the release, NASPL provides lotteries and vendors with a documented set of quality assurance processes and procedures. By following the approved, repeatable method when defining, developing and accepting software products at the lottery, groups are able to meet the quality assurance requirements.

According to a Louisiana Lottery spokeswoman, the purpose of implementing the best practice is to increase the integrity of the lottery business by producing higher-quality systems. This move reduces risk for the lottery, provides better performance, reduces costs and increases public confidence and player satisfaction, the release notes. The process included on-site assessments by The Open Group, which specializes in certification programs.
