A free seminar about the QuickBooks accounting software program is being offered throughout June and into July by the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority at the East Houma Branch of the Terrebonne Parish Library at 778 Grand Caillou Road.

All seminars take place from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be conducted by tax professional Doug Boudreaux.

QuickBooks is used by small businesses for such activities as preparing and sending invoices, tracking expenses and inventory management.

On Monday, June 8, Boudreaux will open the series with an overview of the QuickBooks program.

The June 15 presentation will cover working with accounts and registers. This seminar covers one of QuickBooks’ most popular and commonly used features, said TEDA Business Retention and Expansion Director Katherine Gilbert.

On June 22, sales and accounts receivable will be the topic. Gilbert said the seminar will offer instruction on coding transactions properly.

The June 29 session will cover accounts payable and payroll. The following month’s seminar on July 13 will be about pulling financial statements and reports.

Local Certified Public Accountants have said businesses are costing themselves money by not using QuickBooks effectively, Gilbert said, adding to the load at tax-filing time.

Seminar sessions were filled quickly last year and the same is expected this year. To register, call TEDA at 873-6890 or e-mail intern@tpeda.org or kgilbert@tpeda.org.
