It’s not the stuff of CSI, but the tenaciousness of one deputy that earned a Lockport a man a citation for littering Lafouche Parish.

As he patrolled Farmer Market Road near Gheens last week, Water Patrol Deputy Jeffery Prevost first spotted the trash dumped on the side of the road, said Larry Weidel, public information officer for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Eschete, 26, of 218 Comeaux Dr., allegedly dumped a large box that once contained a 46-inch Sony television and a second box for the wall mount, Weidel said. Next to the boxes, a deputy found the plastic bag, which contained chicken bones and trash.

Following leads from information on the side of the boxes and inside the trash bag, Prevost called the store where the TV was purchased and found out the name of the buyer, the spokesman said. When Prevost reached the man who purchased the items, he told the deputy that Eschete supposed to have placed the trash in a dumpster, Weidel said.

Prevost found Eschete at his home and, after he was read his rights, the Lockport man admitted throwing the trash on the road, the spokesman said.

Eschete was issued a citation for violating Parish Ordinance 9:100 (littering) and advised that it was in his best interest to go pick up the trash he had dumped, Weidel said.

The penalty for violating the parish’s littering laws can result in a fine of $200 or, ironically, community service picking up trash alongside the roadway, he said.
