In less than two months, jolly St. Nick will be making his way to town. The Merry & Bright Christmas Drive is asking for your help to spread the joy and help Santa reach every family this holiday season!

They’re asking residents of Terrebonne Parish to donate their gently used Christmas decorations, old trees, lights, ornaments and stockings. Donations will be accepted through Nov 19.

Donations to The Christmas Drive will be given to residents of Terrebonne Parish who were displaced by Hurricane Ida at Montegut and Scott Lane base camps.

Event organizer Rachel Oubre says the Gordon Dove Jr Foundation decided to host the Christmas Drive to spread holiday joy to families who lost their home due to the storm. “My vision is to visit the base camps after Thanksgiving passes and provide the camps with Christmas decorations to spread holiday joy to families who were displaced by Hurricane Ida,” explained Oubre.

This isn’t Oubre’s first time hosting helping the community in time of need. The Gordon Dove Jr Foundation has helped those impacted by hurricane Laura and the Baton Rouge flood in 2016, and also assisted with providing Halloween costumes to children at Terrebonne base camps this year after Ida.

“My family and I founded The Gordon Dove Jr Foundation to represent my brother. We’ve raised donations for those affected by Hurricane Laura, the Baton Rouge flood, and who knew we’d have Hurricane Ida!,” said Oubre. “I’ve been praying to God to give me direction on which way to go with the funds we’ve received for Hurricane victims, and when hosted the Halloween Costume drive this popped into my heart and soul, and I was like this is what God wants me to do”

Oubre says once the Christmas Drive is completed, the foundation will continue to serve the community with a helping hand by beginning a toy drive for these same children. Toys will be collected through December 10. “My target goal is to provide items to the Houma community and all of the Bayou Community. Wherever there’s a need, I want to reach,“ shared Oubre.
