Terrebonne Parish Government is taking precautions to prepare citizens for what’s expected to be a wet and rainy next couple of days.

The National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring an area of disturbed weather in the southern Gulf of Mexico – an area which forecasts say has an 80 percent chance of tropical development within the next 48 hours.

The low pressure area is not expected to drastically develop because of wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico, but some computer models do develop it into a weak tropical storm before landfall sometime later in the week with timeframe varying from Wednesday to Friday.

Forecasters say the rain event could pump as much as a foot of rain in some areas, which has Terrebonne taking precautions against the storm.

Parish Councilman Darrin Guidry sent out an email on Monday afternoon indicating that sand bags are now available at six locations within District 6.

Those locations are as follows.

-Houma Civic Center – 346 Civic Center Blvd

-Bayou Black Fire Station – 2820 Savanne Rd

-Devon-Keller Memorial Center – 5575 Bayou Black Rd

-Gibson East Fire Station – 5218 N Bayou Black Rd

-Gibson Fire Station – 110 Merry Moss St

-Donner Community Center – Azalea Dr

The Terrebonne Parish Levee and Conservation District also is keeping an eye on the storm.

Less than an hour ago on social media, the levee district said they “may be closing the HNC and Bayou Grand Caillou in the next 24-48 hours.”
